Avoidable Tragedy @ Mangalore

The Whole of India Watched in Horror as the news of Air-India's Boeing 737 Crash at Mangalore's Bajpe Airport sunk in the early hours of Saturday-22nd May 2010.
158 Innocent lives were nipped in the Bud though 8 of them were fortunate enough to narrate the Last few moments of this Phenomenal tragedy.

Routine analysis showed that the safety norms have not been adhered to while costructing this Airport atop a hill.As per the aviation safety norms atleast 300 meters on either side of the air strip has to kept just in case of any sudden emergency ,whereas this air strip has only about 90 metres of space.Further at the end of the air strip the hill ends into a steep gorge.
This Airport is Classified as ''SPECIAL'' because of the peril inherent in its Construction.Even a small margin of error would culminate in a Disaster which is what precisely happened.
The Directorate General oF Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India have to answer this to the families of those who have perished in this AVOIDABLE Targedy.
As per the norms in our Country some Commission would be set up to enquire about this accident which itself would give its report after spending colossal amount of money and time and blame the Pilots as it is easy to pass off the buck onto PEOPLE WHO CANNOT ANSWER OR DEFEND THEMSELVES.

Lastly there was more drama attached as the Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel took moral responsibilty and offered to resign.Every one knew the out come of the Stage managed show as the PM refused to accept the resignation.
Politicians try to seek mileage and publicity and try to label themselves as Heroes even in such adverse conditions.

The only silver lining amongst this gloom was the logistical support and help provided by the Local Population who despite the adverse conditions, the surging inferno battled and saved 8 precious lives, who lived to tell the horrendous tale of one of the most disasterous Accident in Aviation History in recent times occuring in the sub-continent.

11th May-A red Letter Day for Indian Sports

11th May 2010 was a red letter day for Indian Sports as the reigning World Champion Vishwanathan Anand retained the World Chess Championship Crown after a hard fought match with Vaselin Topalov of Bulgaria. This come from behind victory for Anand who toopled Topalov with the Passion, dedication & the will to win against all odds has made all Indians Proud(except Perhaps the Cricket crazy Fans and their ever supportive Media).
Barring a Couple of newspapers the rest of the Print media along with their cousin (the TV Media) chose to loathe and cry over the disastrous showing of our 'Famed'Cricketers in the carribbean islands and gave a NOW NORMAL step -motherly treatment to Anand's Fabulous Victory at the World Championships.
This is one of the prime reasons why other sports like Hockey,Football,Badminton,Boxing,Wrestling to name a few have been neglected. The Participants of these sports have to make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging on most of the Occassions and often Pay the difference for Air travel if and when they wish to avail of this SO CALLED LUXURY,which unfortunately remains the PREROGATIVE of our CRICKETERS.
Despite this treatment acheivements of Certain Sportsmen/Women like Saina Nehwal(Badminton),P Gopichand (Badminton),Virender Singh( Boxing),Sushil Kumar(wrestler) and of course Vishy in Chess who single handedly have fought not only their Opponents individually but also the dreaded bureaucracy associated with Sports in India has provided a SILVER LINING in our Country's Slow but steady march to Progress and Supremacy.
Lets stand in unison and Congratulate VISHY for his superlative Performance and bask in the rich feeling of 'Victory' and forget the 'Defeat' of our Cash rich and Over hyped Cricketers for a While.

Illegal Iron Ore Mining @ Belekeri

Belekeri used to be one of the most pristine Coastal towns in the nothern Part of Karnataka State.Lying about 30kms to south of Karwar, this Place has been ravaged by illegal mining of ire ore and manganese.Hundreds of Trucks are lined up daily on both sides of the road in blatant violation of traffic rules and many people fear to venture out at night due to rash and arrogant drivers of the dumper trucks involved in this mining orgy. The dust which is thrown up everywhere because of the uncontrolled(or is it State Controlled??) mining has turned every thing within its ambit into murky red which is not only an eye sore but a potential health and enviornmental hazard.
It is well known that the notorious 'Reddy Brothers' are wielding a immense clout in the nearby mine rich areas of Hospet and Bellary where the state Govt has lost an estimated amount of 3000 crores during the span of the last 2 years.
Al this cannot be the handiwork of a few individuals but is taking place with the connivance of the Corrupt State Govt Officials.

One feels sad that the last bastion of the green belt, namely the Westen Ghats too is being eroded by the miners with the tacit support of the Govt thus paving the way for a disaster of monumental Proportions which will eventually wipe out many animal and bird species barring the one who has created this mess.
